ST6-P3: displacement
The professor explains about displacement, which is the way people deal with negative emotions such as anger or sadness.
There are two types of displacement; negative and positive displacement.
First of all, negative displacement is that people redirect their anger towards unacceptable substitutes.
For example, when you are really angry at your boss, you might get mad at someone who dialed the wrong number.
On the other hand, in the case of positive displacement, people direct their negative emotions towards more acceptable substitutes.
For instance, people let their anger out through competitive sports or creative work, which is more desirable way to direct one's negative emotions.
